NAME: A hand-up not a hand-out. COMMENTSAs for your comment about me helping the poor, you have no clue who I help or what I do. I do believe in helping people who are down and need a hand. But there are people out there who would rather live on handouts than do anything themselves. You complain about being poor and having to live on only "X" amount of dollars. Quit complaining and go get a job, your legs are not broken your hands work. There are people alot less able out there working. People in wheelchairs or with down syndrome or many other physical and mental dissabilities - are out there holding down jobs and not just riding the coattails of whatever goverment funding your getting. I pay my taxes and it pisses me off that that money goes to people like you who would rather sit on their asses going "Oh poor me" than going out being a productive member of society. Im sure you will come up with some excuse as to why you are not able to work but once again its just an excuse. NAME: Way off base? COMMENTSGreat land, Awsome trails, wildlife, quiet and rural, these are a couple of reasons we chose to live out here. The shacks in the pictures are on old lots which are up for sale, Im pretty sure they are not being lived in and that when the land sells they will not be kept. Im so happy with the progress of the neighborhood with its new construction. Yes I did vote for the water, why would I want to live without water? Its a necessity and hauling water is not only a waste of money but a waste of time also some people do have to work and have better things to do with their time. Houseing prices are not going to go down to nothing and Kelowna/Vernon areas are doing nothing but growing so it only makes sense that VOS is going to grow with it. There are many things people can do to improve their homes for little to no money. From free paint to using recycled materials from salvage yards. Friend of mine redid his whole living room floors from old salvaged wood and after a little sanding and tlc they look like a million. So yes I do understand that affordability is an issue but with a little imagination and some work not everything has to cost alot of money. Because short of the neighborhood burning down before the water comes in I wouldnt bet on property values going down. And the progress in construction goes to show just that. NAME: Way off base? NAME: LETS MAKE PROPERTY VALUES GO UP! COMMENTSLast time I checked building codes were there in order to keep home owners safe. All houses being built need to have permits and work done on them needs to be to code. This makes sense as having people work on your house who dont know what they are doing can not only harm your dwelling but kill you as well. I like to know when I turn on a switch in my house that Im not going to get the shock that ends my life or when I run the water its not going to leak onto the floor below me. Or that my roof is not leaking for that matter. I hate the houses in this neighborhood that look like 3rd world dwellings. I dont think they should be allowed. If people would go get a job, or stop smoking or get rid of non-esentials (2nd vehicle, dog, satelite TV or internet) maybe they could afford to finish the work on their houses and make them look like something more than a overly large chicken-coop or shoe box wrapped in wire. Im sure there will be reply with many excuses as to why this cannot be afforded but my mamma taught me anything is possible and the only one stopping you from getting anything done about it is you. okanaganlakebc.ca reply: We would like to see property values go down so the less fortunate can afford some place to live. We feel you are way off base. You must have known that there are many buildings at Valley of the Sun that are run down shacks and that there were old derelict mobile trailers sitting on the abundance of empty lots at Valley of the Sun. Why did you move to such a run down subdivision the way you feel, and if you can afford better? We assume it was because you were too cheap trying to save your own money on the backs of the less fortunate? Just because the lot and/or home you bought or built was cheaper than others, doesn't mean you belong at Valley of the Sun. There are things you can do to make yourself happier too, don't you think? What do you think of all the weeds here and the potholes in the road, and the derelict shacks that you failed to mention? Don't move somewhere looking to change the subdivision after the fact, to suit yourself trying to save money, because the poor have to live too! Did you vote yes to build the new community water system that 44% of the subdivision didn't want, we can only assume just like you. Go find a ritzy subdivision instead, so you don't have to complain because it seems to us that you are unhappy with Valley of the Sun. If you were half the person you probably assume you are, maybe you would donate and help the poor instead of complain about them and try to force them out. Besides all this, a building doesn't need a permit to be safe. As a matter of fact a building can have a permit and be a leaky condo for instance! There is a lot of assumption in your rant! We can only assume that your agenda is not about a small home with a building permit dressed in wire. Why aren't you instead complaining about the derelict trailers and derelict shacks that are not half the stucco wire home you are complaining about? For instance:
You need to think about why you moved to Valley of the Sun in the first place!
