I saw this news story yesterday and I am very bothered by the actions of dog control.I for one don't think they have a case at all, even though I wouldn't be surprised if dog control have over-stepped their bounce in power and wrote things up to make sure they had every reason to take a owner's dog. It's widely known that animal control likes to exaggerate things a bit so they look better to the public with their job, but more than likely u guy have NO case what so ever

Today I was told that the Regional District Dog Control authority has refused to release my dog under any conditions offered and will proceed with an “Application to Destroy”. No consideration for my willingness to train, no consideration for the wonderful letters of support you have all provided in knowing him and his nature, no consideration for my willingness to accept future personal liability. Nothing. No prior “Dangerous Dog” ticket and opportunity to address that problem, nothing. Just a belief and influence of one Dog Control Officer that my dog can cause further serious harm. And so, my best friend sits in a cage with others until his day in court.....who knows how long. Could be a year and some others have been there for over a year. Other jurisdictions do not allow such inhumane practices which are nothing short of animal cruelty. This District needs to come up with alternatives for dogs and dog owners in this situation that represent reasonable solutions and humane practices to animals. Not to mention the legal costs the Regional District incurs on the taxpayers behalf. Many jurisdictions have such solutions in their Bylaws that our Dog Control Authority does not/will not acknowledge. There is no voice for dogs since the Tammy Williams/Pit Bull incident which has put pressure on this Dog Control Authority to behave in my opinion, in a biased manner. How is it possible that so many people believe my dog should be saved from euthanization and the Dog Control Authority ignores that. Direct neighbours know whats going on with their neighbours dog and have pleaded for his release.
No truth stretched in those comments.
okanaganlakebc.ca says: We have proof that the other neighborhood dogs started barking at 7:55am August 18, 2011 and our dog started just after that at 8:00am. We did go for one walk early one morning but that was to see who's rooster was crowing at 5:30am so we could report that it was not in a sound proof building at that time. We took our dog with us to protect us from the crazy neighbors whom chase us down the road. The animal bylaw states a rooster has to be contained in a sound proof building overnight. We have three witnesses at Valley of the Sun to confirm that our dog is not a danger to their dog because our dog mingled with three neighbors dogs and nothing happened but sniffing and excitement. Our dog is very eager to meet other dogs. There have been several more people who live at Valley of the Sun that have pet our dog. Although I wouldn't try breaking into our house when we are not home, because I can't guarantee that he wouldn't be protective of his property or owner in distress. Maybe there are neighbors that carry sticks, and you could be right about that part, although we haven't seen anyone with sticks on our walks and we haven't noticed anyone walking by our yard with sticks yet. There are two ladies who have always walked with a stick long time before we got our newest dog. One lady met our dog the other day. We stood and talked on the road for a little while before continuing on our way. We brought our dog to one of the ladies who carries a stick property the other day and so she has met our dog as well. She didn't seem concerned that day. I guess you don't want us on the road with our dog, and that is why you posted what you did? Was it you that made the complaint about our dog?
So now okanaganlakebc.ca has got a dog and guess what...it goes outside before 9am. It barks at people walking by, it was barking this morning at 7:30am. The dog is very aggressive to other dogs out on a walk, Its all okanaganlakebc.ca could do to hold onto it the other day. Neighbors are now walking their own dogs and carrying sticks just in case they meet this person and she cant control the dog.
Don't stretch the truth. okanaganlakebc.ca's dog went out the morning of August 18, 2011 at 8:00am in its own yard just after all the other neighbors dogs started barking at 7:55am, thinking that if all the other dogs in the neighborhood are already barking, everyone must have been woken up already if they weren't already up. Just about every day dogs are out barking between 5:30am - 8:00am. okanaganlakebc.ca's dog is very eager to meet other dogs. okanaganlakebc.ca's dog is not a danger to other dogs, which at least three neighbors with dogs can attest to. okanaganlakebc.ca's large powerful dog lives with another dog that is 4 1/2 lbs with no problem. okanaganlakebc.ca's dog barks at people walking by just like other dogs do in the neighborhood, the only difference is that it doesn't keep barking all day, or for 6 hours or for 50 minutes and it doesn't keep barking several times a day within minutes of the last bark all day long, and it doesn't stay outside all day long by its lonesome either. Its really quite sad that some jerk neighbor complained about okanaganlakebc.ca's dog laying down not being a nuisance in its own front yard securely tied on a clothesline run. RDCO's dog bylaw states a dog needs to be in a fenced yard if its tied to a run other than in the back yard, and that if there is no fence, that the dog needs to be in visual sight of the dog owner. The sun beats down in the back yard all day the way okanaganlakebc.ca's property is laid out, so there is no back yard suitable for the poor dog. The only suitable side yard is also in the sun all day. So now the poor dog can't go outside much unless okanaganlakebc.ca is outside within visual sight of the dog. We can't spend three hours outside with our dog everyday, because we would get nothing done if that was the case. That will hopefully change soon, so that the poor dog can be outside by itself for awhile despite the complaint by the jerk for a neighbor, and RDCO's stupid bylaw. Some of okanaganlakebc.ca's neighbors have let their dog bark all day long leaving their dog outside by its lonesome all day, but our dog can't even lay in its own friggen yard not creating a nuisance for a little while, and without a barking problem, and having neighbors suggesting the dog is dangerous because it barks and pulls on its leash at someone walking by with a dog because its eager to meet the dog?? The neighbor who made the complaint to RDCO is hurting okanaganlakebc.ca's dog. We would call this animal cruelty. Please stop hurting the dog and think about your actions instead of targeting the poor dog. Why don't the jerk post another nasty bulletin on the bulletin board and target okanaganlakebc.ca instead, that's who the jerk really wants to hurt isn't it?? Or do people really like to hurt dogs? At least the jerk wouldn't be hurting the poor dog if they posted a bulletin instead. We started a new thread on Castanet.net forum about RDCO's stupid dog bylaw. Its 3:15am as we are writing this, because there was a barking dog that happened to wake us up again, which happens most nights.

To Happy and Content: I have lived at Valley of the Sun longer than you have. I have never been bothered by dogs so much in my lifetime until I moved to Valley of the Sun. I have lived many places in BC, Alberta and Sask. I have lived on a farm, as well as in the city. I am also one of the people who won't complain. In my opinion a person who's dog barks for longer than 5 minutes at a time is neglecting their dog. I have talked to the person who complained about the barking dogs and was told that one dog owner claimed their dog can bark any time it wants. The person complaining about the barking has every right to complain in my opinion. I still hear out of control barking, although I have seen dog control in the subdivision many times. The barking problem seemed to escalate after dog control started passing through the subdivision as much. Its too bad that there are some dysfunctional neighbours that have to ruin the peace and tranquillity of this rural area for others. Then there are others who try to stick up for these barking dog owners without foundation.

Wow, you have been a busy ****. Ive been living in Valley of the Sun for 8years now. My family and I have lived in many communities in BC both rural and urban. This is by far our favorite. Never have I lived in a community that I have known so many of my neighbors. They have been very friendly and have given us a helping hand when needed. Yes there are dogs in the neighborhood most places Ive lived have. I dont have a problem with the barking and find that the owners do go outside to quiet their dogs if they are barking out of hand. I have gone to neighbors and talked to them about thier dogs if it became a problem not necessarly just for barking and its been handled promptly and with no hard feelings. We do have one neighbor though that has been nothing but a problem and brings absolutly nothing positive into the neighborhood other than bringing the other people living here closer together. (thank you for that) You have yelled, cursed, trespassed, threatened, just about run over, harrassed through a 3rd party, stalked and many other thing that just would take up too much time to mention. By looking at your website its just not your neighbors that are getting this special treatment from you. I realize that you are unemployed but have taken up bitching about anything and everything to be your lifes work. For that I feel sorry for you. If you would turn that passion to something more positive my god you could move mountains ****. You are obviously intellegent and passionate but youve put all your energies into anything and everything negative. I know that youve been friends with alot of the people in this neighborhood before maybe its time for you to bury the hatchet and try to mend the fences in your neighborhood and with the neighbors that you dont know instead of alienating yourself and making enemies. I love this neighborhood and all my neighbors we live in a great community with many different personalities which makes it all the more special. Im glad that I am a part of it as is my family. And Im sure 99% of them feel the same way. What you do with this is up to you but I do hope it helps you make a possitive change and see what you are missing in this great place VOS. I would be the first on board to offer you a cup of coffee and a kind word but your the one who has to choose the road you'll take. C.
okanaganlakebc.ca says in reply to Happy and Content:
Your allegations of okanaganlakebc.ca just about running people over are unfounded and you are spreading false rumour like the barking dog owners. Someone told the one neighbor that okanaganlakebc.ca was trespassing on their property so the neighbor bought no trespassing signs and put them up ... they are liars. And your right, Valley of the Sun neighborhood has many different personalities living here! We concur that the area is beautiful, its just too bad that a few of the neighbors aren't as beautiful. okanaganlakebc.ca would never let their dog out to bark for an hour or more at 1:30am or let their dog bark for 6 hours straight, nor honk our vehicle horn all the way up the street at someone's home when they have company trying to chase the company away, would never spin out the vehicle in front of someone's house at 6:30am and 7:00am, nor egg their house, nor spin out in their vehicle around them at the mailbox to find out if they have insurance on their vehicle or not, nor finger them every time they drive by, and nor would okanaganlakebc.ca post messages to the net talking about bestiality and sniffing dog waste like someone from Valley of the Sun posted to okanaganlakebc.ca, nor would we post so many nasty bulletins on the bulletin board with barking dog owners personal names on the bulletin board, and nor would we write notes telling someone to remove themselves from the subdivision. There are some very sick and immature individuals that live at Valley of the Sun. And yes okanaganlakebc.ca is intelligent, much more intelligent than some of the barking dog owners. okanaganlakebc.ca is intelligent enough to know who to be friends with and who not to be friends with. Ask the people who are no longer friends with okanaganlakebc.ca and find out who cut the relationships off, but then again, the dog owners would probably lie about that too. Is okanaganlakebc.ca suppose to know who "C." is? It is as if you would like us to know who you are. To be honest we don't want to know who you are. Valley of the Sun would be a great place to live without all the harassment from the barking dog owners and their friends who are just as intelligent. There are 23 dogs that live at Valley of the Sun, but its only 4 properties who's dogs do all the barking... mostly because they neglect their dogs and don't even take their dog out for a walk. One property takes their kids for a walk but leaves their dog at home to bark in protest.
