SUBJECT: Douglas-Fir Tussock moth
We have a white fir with a tussock moth infestation that was just discovered today. This is near the interface in a neighborhood subdivision and we just wanted to advise you that it is a problem here and ask how we should deal with this. The tree is still in good shape and we have read almost everything available about it. What do we have to do to get a tree specialist that could spray for this and is there any other remedy that is available to the tree specialist or home owner? This is a beautiful tree that we want to save so any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you, Anita/Greg Linn
A pest control company from Armstrong BC said that these exact trees out in Armstrong are saveable, if they are sprayed twice per year and deep root fed. The owner decided to remove the trees. The owner of these trees had hives on her legs probably from the tussock moth because the cause was not known and the hives have disappeared now and haven't returned. She was putting cream on her legs. The dog was itchy too, and its still itchy at times but then it could be a food allergy or something else or other trees that are affected in the area. The Tussock Moth can cause illness, so it is best to do something to get rid of the Tussock Moth. Call a pest control company from the yellow pages to deal with the problem if you don't want to do it yourself. That is about all we can tell you.

SUBJECT: rusty tussock caterpillar/moth/tussocksis
Few of my neighbours and myself have been plagued by these little pests for the past 2 years. Although very intrigued at the start, at seeing the Rusty Tussock Caterpillar, It has now established itself in this area and is devouring my trees in my garden, plants, roses and any thing else that is green, and along the reservation of our slip road they are also devouring the trees there too. I have now got our Local Dundee City Council who have tried to contain this outbreak last year, but no avail, i warned them that it would get more serious this year which it has and now have got Richardson & Starling members of British Wood Preserving involved, and who are coming to my area on the 27/7/10 at 1.00am. They have just starting to come into my home, which is freaking me out a little. We have lots of children, cats and dogs in our area. I would be ever so gratefull if you could give me any advice on the Rusty Tussock Caterpillar/Moth and any information on tussockosis, basically anything relevant to the little critters with kind regards Maureen Baker (DUNDEE, SCOTLAND)
